THE OPPORTUNITY:

As part of the Integration, Commissioning & Start-Up (ICSU) team and reporting to the ICSU Unit Superintendent, the Operations Training Coordinator will be responsible for the implementation of an effective training and competency assurance process for their assigned Unit. This position will also identify and coordinate the development of procedures for the process units (including CSU procedures, standard operating procedures, start-up/shutdown procedures, and emergency procedures).

This position would be ideal for an individual who has strong technical background along with experience and passion for training. This position will be based at the NWR Refinery in Redwater, Alberta and will require occasional travel.

Responsibilities:

  • Builds the skills profiles / training matrix for all positions identified within the unit (in alignment with competency framework)
  • Develops learning objectives that drive course design, ensuring content and outcomes are targeted to the specific learning needs of unit posts
  • Coordinates the development of job specific training material, utilizes subject matter experts as necessary
  • Ensures training and testing material is kept up to date (e.g. operations training guides, knowledge tests and critical skill assessments)
  • Coordinates/supports the delivery of Maintenance trade training and/or Business process site wide training requirements
  • Evaluates training effectiveness and manages feedback related to learning solutions
    • Coordinates the development of procedures for the process units (including CSU procedures, standard operating procedures, start-up/shutdown procedures, and emergency procedures).
    • Ensures consistent implementation of procedure development workflows and practices (e.g. style guide and structured format to accommodate all distinct information types) for Operations and Maintenance documents
    • Identifies approval level and discipline sign off requirements for new procedures in accordance with document governance processes
    • Ensures necessary competencies for each procedure are identified and provides training material for acquiring necessary competencies for executing procedures
  • Acts as a focal point for scheduling/coordination of all unit training and coordinates training sessions (internal and external)
  • Conducts unit specific knowledge evaluations and participates in skill validations to ensure evaluation process is followed as intended
  • Develops training plan and provides training compliance/deficiency data reports to management
  • Ensures accuracy of training records and system integrity
  • Assists ICSU Superintendents in development of operator progression plans and/or individual training plans
  • Delivers Process Overview and Process System training

Criteria:

Knowledge:

  • Effective procedure writing
  • Experience and knowledge in Gasification process/equipment

Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated experience with operations training development and delivery
  • Must have MS Office skills (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Strong organization planning and development skills
  • Effective communications both in verbal and written format to establish clear goals and manage desired outcomes
  • Coach, develop and mentor others

Requirements:

  • 10 years plant site experience in an Upgrader, oil refinery or similar industry with technical knowledge in Gasification operations or Hydrogen manufacturing;
  • Team player: willing to continuously and proactively collaborate, share, and seek information and guidance;
  • Experience in areas of operations and start-up & commissioning
  • Preference given to those with a minimum 3rd Class Steam Ticket
  • Preference given to those with training in Adult Learning/Education
